A stock quote is generally  considered to be the price of a stock or shares of a company at which a stock broker is willing to buy or sell a specific number of shares of the stock. With online trading accounts the process takes place behind the scenes, so you don't know if the broker is making something extra in the transaction, but there is really nothing you can do about it, so don't worry. Just make sure when you are buying or selling stock that you are clear about the selling or buying prices so you don't lose more money.
